This barrel was optimized for the L7Z1A 11.5" Spec War upper receiver. If you like the flush look of a silencer placed right after the handguard than this is the barrel for you. The primary benefit of running a tight fit between the end of the barrel and the upper is reducing light shadows since the gap between end of weaponlight and suppressor is reduced.
LMT did the proper gas system length of Mid instead of carbine or even pistol. For the 5.56 caliber, the longer the gas tube, the more soft shooting a gun with be since the gas has time to settle before entering the bolt carrier group. The short dwell time of the gas system creates an optimal recoil impulse and gas pressure for both suppressed and non-suppressed shooting while maintaining expected reliability.
This barrel comes with the enhanced straight gas tube and pinned gas block with the 45 degree gas venting. The barrel is coated and cryogenically treated for long term durability.
Compatibility: The 12.5" Mid Gas Barrel will work with all of the MRP-L Uppers except the 13.25" Quad or M-LOK due to the length of the handguard extending past the barrel. Mechanically the barrel will still work on a 13" upper, but you will not be able to attach a suppressor since the rail protrudes past the barrel.
